Hey Kasumi. It's me, Shepard. For what it's worth I wanted to apologise for [ how to put this ] not knowing you. [ Damn. ] I wanted to invite you for a drink; get to know you a little better.

[Now that wasn't exactly something she was expecting to hear. Not that she doesn't expect Shep's capable of apologizing, but still.]

It's not a big deal. Apparently most of us remember things differently.

[A beat.] Thanks, though. I'll take you up on that offer.

Most of us?

Garrus and I remember the same things, as far as I know. Tali remembers you as a male, and you don't remember me at all.

Maybe it's more accurate to say half of us, but that's just getting technical.

[janeshepard]

At least everything's fine with me and Garrus.

What? You sound like you're doubting yourself, Shep.

Garrus would follow you off a cliff, if given the chance. What do you think?

Tali's uncomfortable with me; I don't know you. I'd say the chances of Garrus not being 100% okay with me are pretty high right now.

[ Yes she was doubting herself where she'd never previously had reason to. Everything had at least felt fine when they spoke, albeit that hadn't been much. ]

Okay, okay. You do have me curious.

[A beat.] You and Garrus had a fling, from what I remember. Do you remember it?

[janeshepard]

[ Blink. ]

Define fling.

[heisted]

Garrus was seen going to your quarters with a bottle of champagne.

[Does that say enough? Oh, oh wait. She can be worse.]

Or I could say that you two were really exploring the extent of cross-species relationships.

[janeshepard]

Huh.

[ This didn't sound like such a bad idea. Hell of a lot better than pining over Kaidan for the rest of time. ]

Sounds like the other versions of me make much better decisions.

So you really don't remember that either.

[It's kind of interesting after she got over the shock of it, really.]

So what do you remember, then?

[ Oh boy. In the initial conversation with Tali they'd determined that Shepard had done the same things as the Shepard that Tali knew. Stopped Saren, destroyed the collector base... Well, otherwise she wouldn't have been here considering failure was not an option. Events-wise it seemed to match up, at least. Companion-wise on the other hand... ]

After I saw Lieutenant Alenko on Horizon, I focused on the mission.

[ Well, he'd been promoted by then but Shepard still knew him as LT. ]

[Focused on the mission, huh? Did that mean that she didn't move on from Kaidan...?

Well. The question kind of answers itself.]

Sounds like you need to blow off some steam. [A beat.] That's what you and Garrus called it, you know.

[Don't ask her how she knows this, Shepard.]

[ Knowing about other versions of herself who made different choices was actually quite confusing. Not the aspect of their existence but how easy it was to relate to their decisions followed by wondering why she never thought of that. Now that Kasumi was telling her these things about Garrus, Shepard felt familiar with them. They weren't bad choices. It was as if she completely, only now, understood those choices.

On the other hand, it felt pretty awkward that a woman she barely knew was able to tell her this personal business. She found herself wondering where the decision to not meet Kasumi appeared in her own timeline. ]

Sounds about right.

[ Steam would've very much needed to be blown if she was forced to stroll around the galaxy in a Cerberus ship, not to mention having to face Miranda every day. ]

He missed that out.

[ More like he just never mentioned anything of the sort. She made a reluctant mental note to try and catch him soon to talk about it. Now everybody she knew here had some kind of problem with her. Great. ]

[Kasumi is a pro at making things awkward. Almost as good at that as she is with thieving and hacking, if she really wanted it to.]

Probably thought it'd be too awkward to bring up. He was always awkward about the whole thing, anyway.

[She pauses.]

Still, I doubt it'll change much between you two unless you let it.

[That's probably the only awkwardness between Kasumi and Shep at this point; is the fact that Shepard herself felt awkward. Kasumi's okay with rolling with the punches, for the most part.]

Which I don't intend on happening.
